From the AITS Time Capsule: 1995
The Integrated Circuit newsletter was created to serve the administrative computing community of the University of Illinois. Individuals were encouraged to submit ideas and articles using a 5 1/4" floppy disk.
In the summer of 1995, three electronic form applications were being developed to create automated methods and processes to allow clients to enter, approve and track specific business functions. The three applications were being created for Standard Time Reporting, Purchase Requisition, and Change of Status.
OVP Thanksgiving Meal Drive
AITS will be participating in the Office of Volunteer Programs' Thanksgiving Meal Drive again this year from October 23 to November 15. Through our generous donations, AITS provided 40 meals to to local families in need last year! This year we're upping our goal to provide 50 Thanksgiving meals to those in need.
Here are two ways you can help:
- Collect Items: A list of items needed to complete a Thanksgiving meal can be found on the OVP's website here. All items can be dropped off in AFM Suite 1104 in the Gerty Building by Friday, November 15 at 12:00 PM.
- Donate Monetarily: Don't have time to shop? No worries! Drop cash or a check off to Marie Buckhanon in AFM Suite 1104 by November 13 and we'll shop on your behalf!
Unfortunately, there will be no online purchases of Thanksgiving Meals as there have been in years past.
If you have any questions regarding the Thanksgiving Meal Drive please contact Marie Buckhanon at email@example.com or Christina Worthington at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Gerty Building wins ECIP Award - Again!
The Energy Conservation Incentive Program (ECIP) provides awards to campus buildings which demonstrate the greatest percentage of energy savings over the previous fiscal year. University-owned buildings of 10,000 square feet or more on the Urbana- Champaign campus are automatically entered in the program each year. Previously winning buildings are eligible to win again, and there are often repeat winners.
This year, the AITS Gerty Building took 3rd Place in the Energy Advancement category. Energy Advancement includes energy conservation improvements to the building itself, such as optimizing heating and air conditioning systems and controls.
Way to go!
AITS at EDUCAUSE 2019
The EDUCAUSE Annual Conference was held in Chicago this past month and presenters from AITS had they opportunity to share expertise with like-minded technology professionals.
Kelly Block and Cynthia Cobb helped to deliver the workshop, "Developing IT Governance and Portfolio Management Processes to Govern Projects". This workshop focused on the human and technical aspects, considerations, and barriers when implementing an IT governance process. Look for the presentation to be posted to the AITS Organizational Reports and Presentations page in the near future.
Cybersecurity Awareness Training
The University of Illinois is launching a new security training initiative. The initiative provides educational tools to assess and improve cybersecurity knowledge both at work and at home.
Phase I of the intiative is a CyberStrength assessment. This brief assessment presents a variety of scenarios and asks questions designed to gauge understanding of cybersecurity topics. The assessment should take no longer than 20 minutes and can be found at this website: https://uillinois.wombatsecurity.com/
The assessment should be completed by Wednesday, November 27. If you have any questions, please contact the Technology Services Help Desk at email@example.com or call them at 217-244-7000.
