January 2020 - Happy New Year!

From the AITS Time Capsule: 1991

In January of 1991, implementing voicemail was all the rage. Voice processing allowed voice messages to be sent to particular departments or users in the same method that people had been using email.

Recognizing AITS Employees

If you'd like to recognize a colleague for doing great work, use our High Fives & Fist Bumps tool! Recognition from our customers can be submitted to our Recognition Team at aitsrecognitionprgm@uillinois.edu. Think that someone you work with is beyond excellent? Take it one step further and nominate them for the AITS Excellence Award!

Happy Customers

"I just wanted to send a note saying how incredibly useful I find these [Tableau] user group meetings. I don’t really have time to go through Tableau tutorials or pursue other training, so learning from others using the data in similar ways is such a help.  All the presenters today provided very useful information, but the example of using a table join to restrict authorized users is likely to change my world."
-Connie Zdenek from UIC on Tara Sadler's Tableau User Group

"Huge thanks to Mark Baysore and Tadi Kumar.  Mark proactively noticed a performance degradation with SHRTRTC for transcripts and Tadi promptly investigated and fixed the issue; not only bringing performance back to standard, but dramatically improving the module's performance."
-Recognized by Chris Newman

"Sonya Shipley is awesome!  She regularly tolerates my frequent calls to bounce ideas off her, and today, with her attention to detail and understanding of our processes, she solved a problem that was plaguing me.  My job is easier to do because of her!"

Distinguished Employee Leadership and Team Award (DELTA)

The award annually recognizes System Offices employees and project teams for their exceptional accomplishments, service and dedication to the University of Illinois System. Employees will be awarded with a commemorative trophy, certificate, and a monetary award at an awards ceremony in April 2020. DELTA nominations must be submitted no later than Monday, January 6, 2020.

Ten AITS employees were recognized as 2019 DELTA award winners and we still have so many incredible teams and individuals to recognize!  Keep in mind that if you're doing the legwork of submitting a DELTA award nomination, you can submit the same nomination for the AITS Excellence Awards since requirements for both awards are similar.

Further details on this program, including eligibility information, nomination procedures, and a link to the online nomination application, can be found by visiting the DELTA page on the System Human Resource Services website under the Employee Development and Engagement tab. If you have any questions about the DELTA program, or need assistance submitting a nomination, please send inquiries and comments to DeltaAward@uillinois.edu.

Cybersecurity Training - Phase II

Starting in January 2020, employees will be assigned one online training module based on the assessment results provided by the CyberStrength Assessment you completed in Phase 1. These modules will review security best practices such as avoiding phishing emails and staying safe on the web. The training should be completed 60 days from the starting date assigned in the module.

The lessons you learn from this program will help make the University of Illinois more secure and will hopefully also keep you more secure in your personal life. Please contact securitysupport@illinois.edu with any questions.

IT Service Management (ITSM) Update

We wanted to give you an update on the IT Service Management (ITSM) analysis project that was commissioned by the University’s IT Leadership Team (ITLT). Earlier this year, an ITSM Research Group looked at several products that could replace the current ticketing systems that would provide a more unified and modern experience for service and support at our Universities. The products considered represent an evolution over ticketing systems currently in use. Many IT Pros participated in one or more of the demos and surveys that were part of the overall effort to research several products. Recommendations were provided to ITLT in July.

Since then, further research has been done and an implementation project is currently in the early stages of design. TeamDynamix was the recommended vendor from the ITSM Research Group and the preferred choice after additional research. We have recently finalized a contract to implement the TeamDynamix Software as a Service (SaaS) platform. Stay tuned for additional communications on implementation planning early in 2020!

You can use this Box folder url: https://uofi.box.com/s/actnxxy9ea4r1ngvx92dx6g72ymu7t9n to view some of the demos provided by TeamDynamix during ITSM product research activities.

It's National Thank You Month! You can celebrate all month long by sending a co-worker a High Five & Fist Bump to thank them for that project they've been helping you on, the advice they've given you or for brightening your day.

January 13
Start your year off right by celebrating Clean Off Your Desk Day! Take a few moments to declutter and get rid of items on your desk you may no longer need. Before tossing items, check to see if the item could be recycled or given to a coworker to use.
