An inside update on services provided by the University of Illinois Foundation
UIF Information System Access and Security Changes Implemented
New security roles in TED and Hyland Onbase were implemented on Saturday, August 15. The Foundation has created separate "view only" and "edit" roles for Interactions, and a Fundraiser “view-only” role, as well as separate and streamlined “view only” roles for Revenue and Marketing Communications. These changes may have caused some users to lose access to functionality they have used in the past. Leadership at each University reviewed lists of users for preliminary assignment to roles that will enable users to add and edit plans and interactions, or to be limited to a view-only role. If you have questions or cannot access functionality you need, please contact UIF Advancement Information Management and Support at email@example.com.
FY20 Annual Endowment Statements
Progress on the FY20 Endowment Statements is underway! Units should currently be reviewing their statement recipients for any active endowment funds and should also be working on their college’s impact quote to be included on their statements. Both of these action items are due by August 31st. Please contact Cassi Wildman firstname.lastname@example.org if you did not receive this request or have any questions!
The Foundation is dedicated to making sure you have the best resources available for your advancement needs. For this reason, we regularly update TED, UIF Online, OnBase, and BBIS. The next scheduled updates are:
Saturday, October 3rd, 2020 - Service Pack Upgrade

Fill out an advancement support ticket and attach the data that you wanted loaded. Be sure to include TED IDs, Volunteer Job Name, Volunteer Job Occurrence, Start and End Dates. Please use the template example that is linked in the ticket request.
If you want to be able to code records manually in TED with volunteer data please make sure to request the training in iLearn: https://ilearn.uif.uillinois.edu/#/online-courses/08fad76a-3535-4b9d-9c85-748d4bcdfbed

Opportunities for Gifts of Farmland
A recent NPR Article details the growing trend of institutional investors buying land to diversify their portfolios. As the farming population ages there will be trillions of dollars of farmland changing hands. The article suggests that this emerging group of buyers has little personal connection to the land and may not have long-term investment upper mind. The article goes on to state that rural communities, wildlife and the climate could be impacted.
The University of Illinois Foundation with its long history of good stewardship of donated land is a compelling option for those planning farm succession. With an eye on sustainability and research at its fingertips – the U of I is poised to offer donors an opportunity to donate their land, receive tax deductions, and benefit students; all while keeping their legacy alive.
Please contact Gift Planning and Trust Services GPInfo@uif.uillinois.edu to learn more about ways to engage donors in farmland gift discussions.

Research & Portfolio Management (RPM)
Coming Soon - Portfolio Health Dashboard!
The Portfolio Health Dashboard will give fundraisers a broad overview of their active portfolio, helping to assess its size, how many plans are being worked on, whether plans are moving through the fundraising process, and whether ask amounts are commensurate with prospect ratings. Data can be viewed at a high level or drilled-down to make updates directly into plans in TED. Demographic information and geographic maps are also provided to aid with strategic planning. Look for this release in late August!
Portfolio Index Score
A question we get a lot in the Research and Portfolio Management Department is: What makes a good major gift prospect? High capacity? Age? Past giving? Consistent giving? Event attendance? Affiliation?
These indicators and more are all clues into whether someone is likely to make a gift. Sifting through all of that data piece by piece can be challenging, so we employ modeling techniques that aggregate the data and help us get a more holistic view of prospects. One example is the Portfolio Index Score, which considers and assigns weights to a variety of data points - helping good prospects float to the top of our searches. The Portfolio Index Score was developed to help us answer the question: “Which prospects are more likely to answer a call and/or take a visit from a major gift officer?” The higher a prospect’s Portfolio Index Score, the more likely they may be to accept a qualification visit, supported by prior analysis of referrals with varying scores. The Portfolio Index Score is just one of the tools in our arsenal that help us rank and compare prospects to find the best referrals, as we continually looking for ways to improve and refine our processes to make sure fundraisers receive the best-quality prospects for their portfolios.

Introduction to Prospect Management in TED
Increasing philanthropic giving is a cornerstone priority for the University of Illinois Development Program, and TED is the central repository where these efforts are documented and tracked.
This course will provide an introduction to the donor engagement cycle, the prospect information contained in TED, and where to find the information on a constituent’s record. We recommend everyone who can view or edit prospect management information takes this course.
Available for self-enrollment under featured courses in iLearn.
Many of us interact with constituents on a regular basis. Keeping a record of these exchanges will help you and other Advancement professionals move the relationship forward in the future.
This training will focus on viewing and recording Interactions that are unrelated to a fundraising strategy. We recommend those who can view or these interactions takes this course.
Available for self-enrollment under featured courses in iLearn.
Upcoming Live-Training Sessions
In partnership with the U of I Universities, UIF staff will lead a panel discussion around various Prospect Management concepts.
We recommend all fundraisers and their staff take this course after completing the “Updating Prospect & Plan Records in TED” or “Reading Prospect Records in TED” curriculum. In order to enroll in this ILC you must enroll in one of those curricula. We recommend the first to fundraisers, and the second to those who will be using prospect records less often.
