Gift Planning and Trust Services "Philanthropic Planning Series”

UIF’s Office of Gift Planning and Trust Services ("GPTS"), in partnership with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign's Office of the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement, will be hosting a campus-wide, virtual "Philanthropic Planning Series” event titled "Opportunities for Effective Retirement and Charitable Planning" on October 6, 2021, from 12:00PM – 1:00PM CDT.

During the webcast,  Dean Jeff Brown will highlight current trends in retirement planning. The University of Illinois Foundation will build upon Dean Brown’s presentation to share ideas about how charitable gift planning might fit into the context of effective retirement planning through the use of planning instruments such as charitable gift annuities, charitable trusts, and other gift options that pay you income, provide immediate tax benefits, and fulfill charitable and personal financial objectives.

Constituents from GPTS' "Generations" e-Blast list (individuals 55 years of age or older with certain gift planning indicators) who have UIUC as their primary institutional affiliation will be invited. GPTS will share further invitation information internally when it is available so that advancement stakeholders can themselves share it with interested contacts.

Questions? Please contact your gift planning liaison or UIF's Office of Gift Planning and Trust Services (217.244.0473 or gpinfo@uif.ullinois.edu) for more information.

On behalf of the Office of Gift Planning and Trust Services:

As our donors, alumni and friends plan for their end-of-year charitable giving; we hope they will consider the benefits of giving from their Individual Retirement Account (IRA). Alumni and friends 70 years and older will receive an email tomorrow from Gift Planning and Trust Services with details on the Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). As a reminder, those required to take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) are:

·         Individuals age 72 or older per passage of the 2019 SECURE ACT, or
·         Individuals who turned 70½ before 2020

Making a QCD gift is a tax-free distribution. The donation must go directly from the IRA to the University of Illinois Foundation (Tax ID 37-6006007) and cannot exceed $100,000 per person to qualify for the Charitable IRA Rollover.

Events in TED – Exciting new features!

Just in time for your upcoming events, these new time-saving features have been added to improve the functionality of the event area of TED.

These features are available in TED now:

  • Restrictions, notes, and tags can now be entered while adding registrations - Previously, a registration had to be added first and then edited to add this information, now you can do it all in one step!

  • Guest cancelled - This is a new option that allows unnamed guests to be recorded as cancelled without deleting the registration, allowing for a more accurate tracking of registrations.

  • Registration list builder to customize and export - This new feature is our favorite and we think you’ll love it too! Available on the event registration tab, the Registration list builder allows you to export live data with the option to customize the columns of information. A TED Tutorial and Job Aid is available to get you up and running with this new report right away.

UIF Board and Donor Relations has been taking advantage of these new features, just in time for the Annual Meeting. We are happy to answer any questions you have about this new functionality, please contact AIMS@uif.uillinois.edu

The event training in iLearn has been updated to include these new features. See the Learning and Development section below for the full list of event courses, job aids, and TED Tutorials available in iLearn.

Reminder: Solicitor vs. Participant on Plan Steps

When entering plan steps, remember that other advancement staff should be entered on the step as Solicitors, not as Participants. Participants are non-advancement people with TED records who are associated with the plan or step (the household members, for example).

Entering other advancement staff who are involved with steps as Solicitors ensures that those steps will show up in the “Pending Activity” subtab of their fundraiser page! Check out the Plan Participants Job Aid on iLearn for more information.

Upcoming Live-Training Sessions

Pipeline-opoly

In partnership with the U of I Universities, UIF staff will lead a panel discussion around various Prospect Management concepts.

We recommend all fundraisers and their staff take this course after completing the “Updating Prospect & Plan Records in TED” or “Reading Prospect Records in TED” curriculum. In order to enroll in this ILC you must enroll in one of those curricula. We recommend the first to fundraisers, and the second to those who will be using prospect records less often.

Instructor: Shannon Sweeney, Training Specialist

Dates offered:

  • October 21, 1:30-3:30 – Online Webinar
  • November 17, 9:30-11:30 – Online Webinar
