Quad Day to benefit from research collaboration

When 20,000 students descend on the University of Illinois Main Quad at the start of each academic year to learn about the myriad opportunities to get involved on campus, the crowds are understandably dense. Help is on the way though, thanks to a project involving CEE researchers and personnel from the University’s Facilities and Services unit that promises to ease congestion and improve safety. Researchers develop software to analyze economics of bioproducts

BioSTEAM, a new open-source simulation software package in Python developed by researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, gives scientists, engineers, biotechnology companies, and funding agencies a fast, flexible tool to analyze the economics of producing different biofuels and bioproducts — in a matter of seconds. $20 million award will fund resilience research center for five more years

The National Institute of Standards and Technology has renewed a cooperative agreement that funds the Center for Risk-Based Community Resilience Planning, providing an additional $20 million in support over the next five years.
