April 2020 Illinois Administrative Professional Newsletter
President's April Message
Dear IAP Members,
I hope everyone is practicing social distancing and staying healthy. I don’t know about you but I miss my two screens and my chair; I am working off of 13-inch screen laptop. During this time, it is nice to see how people are helping one another. I have a teacher friend who was reading children’s books over lunch time on Facebook to children from her classroom and friends’ children. Parents are sharing ideas on how to home school in order to keep the children engaged in learning. Who participated in the posting of hearts on their house?
We are still abiding by the Federal, State and University policies for the month of April, so we will not be having our Office Professional of the Year on April 15. Instead we will be celebrating Office Professional of the Year and Member of the Year on June 17. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend in June. Please see below information from Philanthropy about how to give back to the community.
In May, we will have an election of new officers: President-Elect, Recording Secretary and Treasurer; more information to come in a separate email. Thank you for your patience; just like the rest of campus, we are still figuring things out when we are not able to meet in person.
Everyone please stay safe and healthy. I hope to see all of you at the May’s luncheon when we elect new officers and have a fun networking activity planned. I added a picture of my new co-worker who needed a hug since I invaded his space for the time being.

Good news follow-up to last month: we raised $55 with the "Dine In to Donate" event at Texas Roadhouse. Again, thank you to all those who participated in this event. We hope to have future "dine in" fundraising events at other local restaurants.

Three IAP members volunteered to work the Gabriel Iglasias comedy show on March 11. We worked with Spectra part-time employees to staff the concession stand. We earned $196.35 for IAP that evening.
We hope to work more events starting in Fall 2020 at the State Farm Center, so if more people are interested in being Basset-trained to serve alcohol and food at these events, please contact Colleen Hammel for more information.

The Illinois Administrative Professional of the Year Celebration has been postponed until Wednesday, June 17, 2020. We look forward to seeing you there. The location has not yet been determined due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
