Starting on Wednesday, Oct. 13, the university will begin restricting access to certain technologies (including Canvas, Compass, Kaltura and others) for undergraduate students who are out of COVID-19 testing compliance. See the full list of technologies here. Tomorrow, Chancellor Jones plans to send this email message to all undergraduate students explaining this new process.
I want you to be aware of this additional layer of compliance that is designed to maximize the safety of our university community. I also want to be sure that you understand how this may affect undergraduate students in your classes.
Failure to participate in class, submit an assignment, or take an exam as a result of the university restricting the student’s access to technology is not considered an excused or verified absence. As a reminder, you can see if a student has a verified absence by accessing the Verified Absences column in your Class Roster Data in Banner Self-Service or by the student’s submission of an absence letter. Additional information on the university’s policy on class attendance can be found in the Student Code.
If you have questions about this process, please contact the Wellness Answer Center by email at email@example.com or call 217-333-1900. If you have questions or issues with a particular student, please contact the Dean of Students at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you for your continued patience and partnership as we navigate the COVID-19 pandemic together.
Andreas C. Cangellaris
Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs & Provost
