Hello IAP Members!

Our monthly lunch meetings are back!  After a brief hiatus and a new normal, Illinois Administrative Professionals will have our monthly meeting via Zoom until we are able to meet in person again.   I believe most of us have had experience now with Zoom to be able to hold meetings.  We need to conduct business as usual…apart. 

I am happy to announce the new IAP Officers for 2020-2021: Jen Sans as President-Elect; Sandy Hardin as Treasurer, and Penny Ames as Recording Secretary.  We made the announcement via Zoom on Wednesday, May 20.  I would like to thank Michael Foellmer and Deb McCall for their assistance with the nominations and elections. 

On June 17, we will announce Office Professional of the Year winner during our next IAP Zoom lunch meeting.  Our Program and Events committee is working on July 15 meeting; they are thinking outside the box on what we can bring to our members while we are working remotely. 

Registration for the 2020-21 IAP Membership dues will begin July 1 thru October 15.  I will work with the Membership Committee and our Treasurer to get the online registration ready.  The cost of the yearly membership is $15; we take checks, credit card and C-FOAP. 

I hope everyone is able to stay positive while working remotely.  How many of you have discovered you can cook, grill or bake old/new foods?   One thing I hope everyone is able to do is get outside for some Vitamin D, fresh air and going for a walk; these are beneficial for your health and well-being.

Our guest for this month's meeting is Paula Blakely, an adjunct professor at Parkland College. She has an extensive background in the gardening and landscaping industry and is an avid home gardener as well. She will be presenting on container vegetable gardening.

The Scholarship Committee has reached a decision on who our Kathryn G. Hansen winner is for the 2020/2021 academic year and Barbara Close from Mercer County High School is our recipient. We had several outstanding applicants, but Barbara application stood out to us all. She achieved a 4.0 GPA throughout her high school career and ranked 3^rd in the graduating class. Her letters of recommendation were very supportive sighting leadership qualities, confidence and excellent work ethics. Her essay was excellent and written very well noting clear goals and her plans on how to achieve those goals. Barbara also has excellent community and extra-curricular experience as well as experience in the areas she plans to have a future career in. Barbara will be attending the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign majoring in Agricultural and Consumer Economics.

Due to the unusual circumstances resulting from the coronavirus pandemic and the Governor’s stay-at-home order, the election of officers for 2020-2021 was held electronically via Webtools.

Donna Miller, who served as President-Elect for 2019-2020, will be President for the 2020-2021 year.  The results of the Webtools election for the 2020-2021 slate of officers were announced during the May general business meeting as follows:
