Welcome, Kat Kernick!

Please give a big AITS welcome to Kat Kernick who has recently joined Strategic Budget & Finance (SBF) as an Program Coordinator for Asset Management and Administrative Support! Kat comes to AITS from the University of Illinois College of Education and we are so excited to have her on our team. Once we return to on-site work, you can find Kat in the SBF suite in the Gerty building. We asked Kat a few questions to get to know her a little better and here's what she told us:

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
KK: Strawberry Ice Cream

Do you own any pets?
KK: Leela, a 5 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi

What are you most passionate about?
KK: My health and fitness - I have lost close to 50 lbs since COVID started because I started running and being more active. I'm actually looking forward to going to a gym!

What is your favorite family tradition?
KK: My favorite family tradition is Thanksgiving in general - preparing the huge feast with my mom, gathering a lot of family and friends together, eating pie, and playing games.

Who inspires you?
KK: My 4 year old nephew Dylan

Do you have any hidden talents?
KK: I am super crafty - I love to sew, cross stitch, knit, crochet, paint, decorate cakes, and just be creative.

Watch for more introductions of our newest team members in the upcoming editions of AITS in Action!

"Miranda Clampitt has been doing an excellent job keeping AITS employees engaged while they are working from home.  For many of our employees, working away from the office environment can be isolating and lonely.  Miranda has created fun ways for coworkers to feel connected using her creativity and Microsoft Teams. Thanks for all you do to keep our spirits up and keep us connected, Miranda!"

"I need to hop onto another call, but I just wanted to say thank you, congrats and kudos to AITS [Pete Herrig, Robyn Velazquez, Chris Hawk, Kavin Chan], Dave Musselman and everyone involved for finally making this an enterprise service after years and years of people asking for it. THANK YOU for delivering at the central level on what campus IT staff have been asking for as a campus license for longer than I can remember! Great to see someone finally being responsive on this!" -Webmaster's Caffeine Break: Github for the U of I

"Thank you again for all of your help with this document.  The time you have spent helping me with this and the scenario testing in BANDEV is greatly appreciated.  I want to say one other thing.  Sometimes working at the U of I System can be a frustrating experience.  I have never once felt that way when working with your group [Teresa Woodley, Erin Arie, Sonya Shipley] or for that matter 99% of AITS.  So, yeah, thank you for making my work a lot easier.  It’s a pleasure working with you all."

"I am a professor at UIC, Jane Addams College of Social Work. Your staff member, Chris Burdette, was of great assistance to me this morning via the Helpline.

Struggling with uploading my grades, he was extremely efficient and effective in bringing closure to my tech dilemma.  Most importantly, his customer service, communication and stress reduction skills contributed so much to problem solving and allowed me to remain calm.

I asked Chris for your contact information because I believe, as a manager, it is important for you to recognize excellent performance of your staff. Additionally, I commend you for managing Chris that reflects true leadership."

"I need to pass on a great big ‘Thank You’ to your team, specifically Tom Muehling and Dawn Davis, for their tremendous support of our 3 University End-of-Term processes.  This year has introduced a few challenges with COVID specific process needs and Dawn and Tom have been instrumental in making sure we hit our deliverables as necessary.

Dawn has been very flexible in helping us get special requests executed as needed and helping us validate the prepared scripts.

The normal schedule of activities has shifted a bit too and Tom has played an integral part in making sure that processes execute as they need to – he not only works with the Campuses to schedule the activities, but he also takes time to verify that processes are executing as they are expected to; we have been contacted from production at Tom’s prodding to investigate questions on EOT processes that should be progressing as scheduled, this has been most helpful and prevented problems from arising.  We couldn’t be successful in our EOT activities without their great participation and I just want to extend my thanks to you and your team for participating as they do."

TAM Employees of the Month - April

Todd Nelson

Over the past few months Todd has worked diligently with internal and external system clients to refresh and redesign the uillinois campus websites that highlight the individual universities within the UI System and provide important content and navigation to site visitors. These sites are an outward facing public representation of the UI System and Todd has worked hard to produce a consistent, modern and responsive look and feel to these sites that strengthens the UI System brand as well as providing a framework for users that allow them to more easily manage content themselves. He also quickly addressed requests related to COVID in standing up the eSignature site on short notice to help support the new Adobe Sign effort. These efforts were highlighted in presentations others gave in the Quarterly Business meeting, but many may not realize that Todd's quality work was key to the success of those projects. Quality work from Todd is always appreciated by his team and clients, but some of his recent efforts truly highlight that consistent quality we have grown accustomed to.

Alicia Cross and Nisha Aggarwal
Alicia and Nisha both did an excellent job of getting requests processed working with Brent on issues regarding access for the Adobe Sign project which allows for eSignature which has been highlighted in many recent presentations. They were responsive to questions and issues and directed folks to the right groups to get the issues resolved. They worked all this in between their regular day-to-day work and never complained. They have kept a positive attitude and continue to support and provision access as Adobe Sign grows.  Their work is greatly appreciated by their team and clients!
