Nahrstedt Receives SIGMM Award for Outstanding Technical Contributions

The 2014 winner of the prestigious ACM Special Interest Group on Multimedia (SIGMM) award for Outstanding Technical Contributions to Multimedia Computing, Communications and Applications is CS Professor and CSL Acting Director Klara Nahrstedt.

Kesavadas appointed first director of Illinois' Health Care Engineering Systems Center

Thenkurussi (Kesh) Kesavadas has been named the first director of the newHealth Care Engineering Systems Center at Illinois. Through the center, which will be housed in the Coordinated Science Laboratory, the College of Engineering has partnered with the Jump Simulation and Education Center (Jump) of the OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, in an initiative known as Applied Research for Community Health through Engineering and Simulation (Jump ARCHES). The aim is to develop new technologies and cyber-physical systems, to advance medical simulation and training, and to drive a transformation in the practice and quality of health care, in the future.

PURE returns this semester, offers more for undergrads

The concept of doing research may be a daunting task for undergraduates, who typically have little technical experience. However, the Promoting Undergraduate Research in Engineering (PURE) program has been designed to give freshmen and sophomores a chance to work as mentee on a research project with a graduate student.

Around CSL

  • As the semester kicks off, please remember that CSL supports preparation of proposals and funding agency reports both through the Business Office’s assistance with budgets and financial statements, and through assistance with the development, assembly, and proofreading of technical and administrative content. (Writing and editorial support for other projects, such as user documentation, curriculum materials, and special publications, may also be available.) Please contact Jenny Applequist (japplequ@illinois.edu) to inquire about those services.
