         iSchool Resources Guide

To prepare for the iSchool virtual career fairs we have several resources available.

Are you interested in putting your computer and technical skills to good use? Do you like working with a variety of people?  If so, then you should think about becoming one of the U of I Tech Volunteers at Clark-Lindsey Village (a retirement community located just south of campus at Windsor and Race).  The U of I Tech Help at CLV Project started as a service-learning opportunity 12.5 years ago.  Students spend an hour on Friday afternoons (from 3-4 pm) in the CLV library helping residents with basic tech-related issues ranging from document formatting and setting up email on mobile devices to troubleshooting printers and using FaceTime, and everything else in between!  Check out this 2013 YouTube video about the project!

Use your skills to make a positive impact in someone else’s life!  Become a Tech Volunteer! Bring a friend!!  Help spread the word! This project is open to anyone on campus- not just INFO students.

If you are interested in participating this summer or in the fall, please send Karin Readel an email (kereadel@illinois.edu) to be added to the list.

Mentor Matching Engine (MME)
The Mentor Matching Engine (MME) allows volunteers to connect virtually with students across the state looking for their help. Volunteers sign up to mentor high school students on research projects they're conducting through their school. As a mentor, volunteers use their expertise to guide, advise, and push back on student ideas through discussion portals and video conferencing built directly into the platform. Students on MME explore topics from nanotechnology to social activism, literature, engineering, and everything in between. Through weekly communication of less than an hour each week, you can advise students and act as a sounding board on a project tailored to your expertise. To learn more, email Sarah Perret-Goluboff (the program's coordinator), directly or sign up for further information here
