Learning at Home Activities Available as Printable PDF

Girl holding teddy bear and blanket

As many young children and their families have spent time learning at home, they have appreciated IEL’s collection of Learning at Home Activities. Knowing that some families and educators would prefer to do these activities away from a screen, we have developed a downloadable PDF. Feel free to print these yourself; consider using cardstock or lamination to build a library that will last. These are great resources for educators to share with families whose children are learning remotely this fall.

IEL Starts New Blog Series on Curriculum Modifications

White fork, knife, and plate on a black placemat

Even though we have a lot on our plates during this pandemic, it is essential to maintain inclusive practices in early care and education settings. IEL has created a new blog series about curriculum modifications, which are simple changes to the environment that can make a powerful difference for young children with disabilities. The first two installments in the series, which are geared toward teachers in preschool classrooms, are: Curriculum Modifications: Introduction to a Blog Series and Curriculum Modifications: Environmental Adaptations. Keep your eyes peeled for future installments in this series.

New Project Examples on Baking, Pizza Available

Do you use the Project Approach in your classroom? If so, IEL has a comprehensive Project Approach section on our website devoted to project-based learning. There you will find two new project examples: The Baking Project and The Sharing Pizza Project. Read these to learn more and gain some inspiration; project-based learning can be done at school or at home.

The Early Intervention Clearinghouse Can Keep You Informed

Our Early Childhood Collective partner, the Illinois Early Intervention Clearinghouse (EIC), shares updates and resources to help families stay informed about early intervention services in Illinois during COVID-19. Even during this unusual time, families can keep working on early intervention outcomes with their infants and toddlers during play and daily routines. We hope these resources help you think about everyday moments in the kitchen, when doing the laundry, or playing on the couch and turn them into opportunities for Everyday Early Intervention with your young child. You can also use EIC’s online form to request books and DVDs for you and your child to use at home and then return them through your local public library.
