It's time for the SENIOR Spotlight...

Kapri Dowdell


As her senior year comes to a close, Special Education major Kapri Dowdell has her eyes set on her future as an educator. After graduation, Kapri is heading home to Chicago as an elementary school teacher in Chicago Public Schools, with plans to return to school for a Master's in Administration in a few years. When asked about her dream job, Kapri stated, "I want to be a principal or have a higher power in our education system to advocate for our students with special needs for academic, emotional, and mental support."

Commencement 2021: LAST DAY TO REGISTER
May 10 - May 17
Commencement season is just around the corner! 2021 and 2020 graduates are invited to participate in the in-person individual, private Stage Crossing experience and should refer to the official checklist if interested. Check your university email for log in information to register for stage crossing times, with responses due TODAY, April 15. An extra stage has been added for the weekend dates to accommodate more students. While the academic attire deadline has passed, students can still order regalia for at an extra fee. Additionally, graduates are now permitted four guests to accompany them. See the Commencement website for more information. Congratulations, Illini!

Movie Night is Back!
Saturday, April 17 at 8 p.m. CST
UIUC students can enjoy the spring weather with an outdoor movie at Memorial Stadium! Join us Saturday evenings for a free screening, as well as a limited supply of free popcorn and a drink. Golden Apple Scholars
The deadline to apply to Golden Apple has been extended to today, April 15! This teacher preparation program provides their scholars up to $23,000 in tuition assistance and mentoring that supports the development and success of new, highly effective teachers for Illinois schools-of-need. Illinois needs passionate resilient young educators like you! High school seniors and first and second-year Illinois college students are eligible to apply.

COVID-19 Vaccine Study
Undergraduate and graduate students between ages 18-26 who are planning to be in the CU area for the summer to continue their twice-a-week testing are eligible to participate in this study on the effectiveness of the Moderna vaccine. Daily Mindfulness Workshops

Odyssey Project Internship
Application Deadline: April 18
Apply for a paid internship with the Odyssey Project, a program that offers free college courses to adults of the Champaign-Urbana community. Odyssey Project Interns are responsible for delivering onsite content and skill support for Odyssey students during class time (Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.). The position begins August 23, 2021 and ends May 13, 2022, with approximately two to three hours per week during the fall and spring semesters (with flexible hours), at the rate of $15.75 per hour. The UIUC TRIO Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program (McNair Scholars Program) provides research, mentoring, advising, and graduate school preparation opportunities for eligible sophomores, juniors, and seniors to promote their academic excellence and pursuit of a PhD. TRIO McNair Scholars engage in rigorous research with faculty mentors, attend relevant workshops and seminars, and commit to preparing themselves for doctoral studies following the completion of undergraduate studies.
