Are you using a personal device as you work from home?
Your personal device might not be running the most up-to-date software, which can leave it open to a software vulnerability or cyber-attack. Cyber-criminals depend on users’ inaction when it comes to software updates or patches, so take action to protect your personal device.
What to Do:
Check whether your software applications are running the most recent versions.
If the latest versions are running, great! You can set the software to update automatically in the future, if that option is available.
If your software applications need to be updated, you’ll probably be prompted to update them. Go ahead. If there’s an option to automatically update in the future, select that option. Because some software products don’t have auto-updating features, it’s best to check all your applications.
As part of our ongoing cybersecurity training program, you can also learn why updating your software is important in the Ransomware training module at https://go.uillinois.edu/securitytraining.
