College of Education Graduate Students,

I write this email to assure you that the College of Education is working diligently to provide the best possible academic support throughout this challenging time. Our dedicated staff is committed to supporting your well-being and continued academic success at Illinois. In this email we’ve assembled critical information we believe will be helpful to you in the weeks ahead. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.

1. Spring 2020 Courses
As you know, all courses at Illinois are being offered online for the remainder of the spring semester. Traditional (face-to-face) classroom-based College of Education courses (EPSY, EPS/EPOL/EOL/HRD, CI, SPED, EDUC only) were cancelled March 23 and today, March 24, to allow faculty time to move classes online. These cancelled classes will resume on March 30 and March 31, respectively. Courses taught through other university departments, as well as existing online courses, will remain on schedule. We hope you've used these days as a time to test your equipment and determine how well you can access courses remotely. The College and campus are developing options to support your technology needs. If you have specific course questions, please contact your instructors directly.

2. keeplearning.education.illinois.edu
It is understandable that current events may have disrupted your academic and personal lives. I would like to encourage you to review the College’s Keep Learning webpage where you can find resources and FAQs specifically for our graduate students. Some examples:

  • How do I submit a paper form?
  • Can my prelim/final exam still be held?
  • How do I adapt to being an online student?

3. Commencement 2020
Commencement ceremonies will not take place as scheduled in May 2020, but campus is exploring possible alternatives (e.g., rescheduling and/or hosting virtual events).

4. Annual Student Evaluations
The deadline for graduate students to complete the Annual Student Evaluation has been extended to April 3, 2020, at 11:59 p.m. CST. I encourage you to contact your faculty academic advisor to set up meetings to discuss your evaluation.

5. Summer/Fall Registration Delayed
Summer/Fall registration has been delayed by two weeks. Time tickets will be released on April 6. Priority registration begins on April 20. Keep checking the Office of the Registrar’s website for updates.

6. Additional Information
Continue to review the campus COVID-19 webpage and Graduate College COVID-19 webpage for updated information as it becomes available.

We know this is a difficult time, but please know that you are our top priority. Faculty, staff, and administrators on campus and within the College are doing their best to respond to an ever-changing situation. Email is the primary means of communication the University of Illinois has with you—it is extremely important that you check your email regularly to stay current.

If you have any questions, please contact our Graduate Student Services staff at gradservices@education.illinois.edu or 217-244-3542.

Sincerely,

Christopher M. Span
Associate Dean for Graduate Programs
