New Addition to the Pledge Program

UIF is launching a new addition to the pledge program administered through Gift Administration.  In addition to pledge confirmations and reminders, a pledge statement will be sent annually every March to every donor with an active pledge in TED.  Active pledges include those that are current as well as those in past due or expired status yet a balance remains.  All pledge statements will be mailed from UIF March 31.  The statement will be accompanied by a cover letter introducing the statement itself and providing a brief explanation.

A short video highlighting details of the pledge statement will soon be available in iLearn and will be assigned to any advancement community member with access to pledge revenue.

Please visit UIF Online for more detailed information on Pledge Policies including Pledge Statements.

Engagement Center Update!

For a variety of reasons, including vaccine distribution and in an effort to continue to follow all COVID guidelines put forth by UIF and the Universities, the engagement centers will need to stay closed for the summer semester. However, we are hopeful that over the coming months there will be continued progress which will allow us to safely re-open the engagement centers for Fall 2021. With this in mind, our new timeline is to resume in-person operations with student employees on Monday, August 23rd.

In addition to preparing to resume operations, during this time we will be continuing to work on the ITG-483 Engagement Centers Software Solution, including work on integration and testing of the new software platform. We look forward to taking VanillaSoft live and implementing these new services when students return. For more information on VanillaSoft and the project, please see the 2/16/21 issue of Advancement Insider. Feel free to reach out to us with any questions at engagementcenters@uif.uillinois.edu.

Gift Planning and Trust Services "Philanthropic Planning Series”

UIF’s Office of Gift Planning and Trust Services ("GPTS"), in partnership with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign's Office of the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement, will be hosting its first campus-wide, virtual "Philanthropic Planning Series” event titled "Advancing Research that Impacts Lives" on April 28th, 2021, from 11:00AM-12:00PM CDT.

During the webcast, Dr. Neal Cohen will highlight how Illinois’ research enterprise advances transformational research from the laboratory to real-world applications impacting daily life. GPTS will build on Dr. Cohen’s message through strategies designed to help donors better achieve their personal financial and philanthropic objectives with Illinois or other priorities important to them.

Constituents from GPTS' "Generations" e-Blast list (individuals 55 years of age or older with certain gift planning indicators) who have UIUC as their primary institutional affiliation will be invited. GPTS will share further invitation information internally when it is available so that advancement stakeholders can themselves share it with interested contacts.

Questions? Please contact your gift planning liaison or UIF's Office of Gift Planning and Trust Services (217.244.0473 or gpinfo@uif.ullinois.edu) for more information.

Research & Portfolio Management (RPM)

NEW – “Rising Stars”

Have you encountered constituents who are not viable major gift prospects now, but are expected to be in the future? The Research team has built a tracking system to ensure these "Rising Stars" are periodically reviewed for referral and assignment based on their professional growth trajectory and accumulation of wealth.

RPM has a robust research program that strives to identify major gift prospects through a combination of bulk wealth screening, record analysis, and data curation. When a prospect is released from a portfolio, they will resurface in the future if their record at that time indicates major giving capacity and other markers of viability. However, if fundraisers want to track a constituent more closely, they can request the constituent be evaluated by the RPM team for consideration as a Rising Star.

Rising Stars are not yet major gift prospects, often because they are in the early stages of their careers and have not amassed the wealth to make a major gift, but they are expected to be major gift prospects in the future. Rising Stars are reviewed periodically to see if their wealth circumstances have changed, and once a Rising Star exhibits the hallmarks of a good major gift prospect, the RPM team will refer them to fundraisers for qualification.

Examples of constituents who could be Rising Stars:

  • Young professional in the early stages of their career who does not currently have the wealth to make a major gift
  • Entrepreneur whose new startup has not yet achieved success
  • Constituent who is expected to inherit significant wealth

Constituents who are established professionals with the capacity to make a major gift, but who decline to do so are NOT Rising Stars.

If you know any Rising Stars, including anyone currently in your portfolio, please contact your unit's Prospect Development Analyst to start a conversation!

TED TIP: The Fundraiser Tab

One of TED’s more helpful features is that tabs and subtabs can be moved, and tab order can be customized by the user. The tab and subtab placed to the farthest LEFT position will be the tab that automatically opens when you first open a record. Moveable tabs in TED make it possible for users from different areas to prioritize the tabs and subtabs they use the most.

RPM recommends that you position the Fundraiser tab all the way to the left. That way, you can easily access fundraiser-specific information (like their portfolio) when viewing a fundraiser record.

When you are viewing non-fundraiser constituent records, the Fundraiser tab is not displayed, therefore, the next tab in your order will be shown instead.
