President's Message

Greetings IAP Members!

I have been reading about a black bear who came down from Wisconsin and wandering in Western Illinois.  I read last night Bruno the bear was sedated and moved to a more safer area.  He was last seen in a suburb of St. Louis near St. Charles.  What I have noticed when observing wildlife, there are lot of ground squirrels.  I have one who likes to visit my garage when the door is open.

Good News! We have entered Phase 4 in the reopening Illinois!  As the campus is slowly reopening, I am reminded that we all need to be patient and abide by the campus policies.  What does it mean for IAP? We will continue to have Zoom lunch meetings on the third Wednesday of the month until it is safe to meet in person.

Reminder: It is time to renew your IAP membership for the 2020-21 academic year, the Membership and Mentor committee has the information below on renewing your membership.  Our Programs and Events committee has been working hard to make each month informative as well as part of professional development.

Please mark your calendars for upcoming lunch meetings via Zoom:

Wednesday, July 15:  Social Justice
Wednesday, August 19: Guest speaker, Morris Moseley
Wednesday, September 16: Guest speaker, Michael Foellmer will present writing cover letters and resumes

Please contact me if you have questions at dkmllr@illinois.edu.

July Luncheon

IAP Programs & Events Committee (David Perryn, Tenea Harris, Suzi Stadel, Marie Tan)

IAP Programs & Events Committee obtained feedback through an interest survey and learned that 75% of respondents asked for a Social Justice Discussion by the Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Relations (OIIR).  As Illinois Professionals, you may be asking some questions about Social Justice and want to expand your knowledge to better support students and colleagues.  IAP Programs & Events will host Dr. Joe Minarik on July 15th via Zoom.  We hope you can join us at 12:00pm for this topic.  We will utilize breakout rooms for this event, so registration will close on Sunday, July 12th.

In order to attain the most of the experience, please watch the following video a few days prior to the event: “The danger of a single story” which features a TED Talk by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9Ihs241zeg
